HOW THE TOYOTA ETIOS IS GOING

The Etios, in hatchback and three volumes version, is ready to debut in Brazil. Although developed simultaneously with the Indian cars sold with the same name, the vehicles analyzed by QUATRO RODAS in Japan have a different motorization and a more solid style than the Indian model revealed in our pages last year. Check a preview of our impressions while driving that you can read in the July edition.

STYLE
The cars, produced in Sorocaba, conserve the same traces of their Indians similar and also the same dimensions of 3,78 meters of length and 2,46 meters of wheelbase. Following what Toyota calls the "bold simplicity", the design is lean, without excessive lines. But, in comparison to the Indian Etios both Brazilian models have been remade according to the yearnings of a more demanding consumer. The seats are thicker, with head supports on the back seat, plastic interior of better quality and a more consistent acoustic isolation.

ENGINES
On the hatchback version, there will be engines 1.3 and 1.5, both containing 16 valves. On the four doors, only the more powerful version is present. Based on strategic reasons, Toyota has not released the power of touch of neither, quoting that "our competitors in Brazil can change their engine to approximate themselves to our product" said Akio Nishimura, project leader. Where the engineer said competitors, read as Hyundai HB – the only new popular car which hasn't yet reached the market. According to Nishimura, project leader, in Brazilian configuration, Etios Hatch 1.3 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11,9 with alcohol in its tank.

EQUIPMENT
The Etios has cloth seats manually adjustable, adjustable air conditioning, radio with CD-Player and USB port. Every version comes with ABS brakes and double airbag. The Hatch exits manufactures with its series rear airfoil. In its Indian similar this equipment is an accessory sold apart.

IMPRESSIONS WHILE DRIVING
One of the main differences from the Indian version to the Brazilian lies in its acoustic isolation. If the "Indian" car was too noisy above 120 km/h, the Brazilian engineering team worked hard to make the engines run silently. The test drive realized in Japan showed a car with soft and precise exchange couplings and a 1.3 engine that delays to pick up its pace. The justification may be on the reinforcements applied to enhance in 15% the frame rigidity.

PRICE
Still has not been announced. The Toyota executives have promised "competitive" prices to face Gol and Palio in the Hatch version, and Voyage and Logan in the sedan. The goal is selling 70 thousand Etios in Brasil on the first twelve months of production.
